Variable Area Flow Meter

A Variable Area Flow Meter (VAFM) operates on the principle of a float in a tapered tube. As the fluid flows through the tube, the float rises. The higher the flow rate, the higher the displaced float rises. The resulting increase in float height is directly proportional to the fluid flow rate. The vapor pressure head of liquids and gases causes the holder to move up and down the pipe, causing the droop to increase. This is the principle behind a variable area flowmeter.
